2000 Chevrolet Astro Weather Strip Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front door Weather Strip on 2000 Chevrolet Astro?
A: The first step to replace the front door weather strip is the removal of interior garnish moldings. The operation should begin at the upper right corner of the pinchweld flange using Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover J 38778 to extract the weather strip throughout its length. To install the new weather strip properly mount it first onto six strategic areas on the pinchweld flange where it can rest without fully securing it. Apply weather strip to the opening manually with hands before positioning it on the pinchweld flange that extends to 154mm (6in) away from each corner point. Using a rubber mallet will allow users to hit the weather strip directly onto the flange so the carrier does not spread undesirably thus lowering retention levels. Use the rubber mallet to drive the weather strip into every corner and pinchweld flange region of the hinge and windshield pillars. The weather strip installation succeeds if it fills the corner area correctly while matching the pinchweld flange curve and covers the complete flange surface to create a seamless door opening edge. It also passes inspection when there is no carrier distortion nor rubber spreading beyond acceptable limits and the material remains smooth after installation. In conclusion you must apply GM weather strip silicone lube to the weather strip before reinstalling the interior garnish moldings.
