2000 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Start Brake Master Cylinder repair by producing two plugs using close-ended 11 x 1.5 mm and 12 x 1.0 mm tube fitting nuts. Form two 50 mm iso flared 4.75 mm (0.187 inch) brake pipes (part number unknown) by attaching 12 x 1.0 mm tube fitting nuts and 11 x 1.5 mm tube fitting nuts. Press one unflared tube end into the vise before reducing it to compress the tube. Adjust the angle to 90 degrees for a locking seal. Release the tube from the vise and return it to make a tight seal by folding one end against itself. After filling the master cylinder outlet ports with the custom plugs do not undo the vise too hard to prevent harm to the components. Position a master cylinder within two shop towels that soak captured brake fluid before adjusting its vise holding position with a downward tilt. Brake fluid fill volume affects the force needed to push the primary Piston when the system air bleeds out. A smooth tool with a rounded tip should be used to push the primary Piston 0.948 inches twenty times before rotating the master cylinder in the vise and adding more strokes. After placing the master cylinder in level position tighten the fabricated plugs followed by removing them one by one. Pushing the primary Piston into the cylinder bore helps bring out trapped air. Seal air from returning into the system while the Piston rises back up. Stroke the primary Piston 25 millimeters while tightening the fabricated plugs one by one until no air blows through. Finally, put the master cylinder back into the vehicle.
