2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: When working on Brake Master Cylinder repairs you must first take it out of your vehicle then put its flange into a bench vise with access to the back of its primary Piston. Examine the master cylinder reservoir's exterior surface before removing its cap to find any damage on the cap and diaphragm. Replace all damaged parts when necessary. Push the smooth tool at the primary Piston to disassemble Piston retainer and primary Piston assembly from the cylinder unit. Put the cylinder entrance ports and outside ports sealed while blowing filtered and non-oiled air into the front exit to take out the return spring and secondary seal together. Prepare the master cylinder secondary Piston organization and spring for assembly while cleaning both the exterior and interior parts in denatured alcohol. Test the components for important damage signs then substitute the master cylinder if problems exist. Use non-lubricated filtered air to dry components next apply delco supreme 11(R) (GM P/N 12377967) brake fluid or its equivalent to the master cylinder bore, secondary Piston and return spring as well as all overhaul parts from a sealed clean fluid container. Place the new primary seal and retainer along with new secondary seal on top of the secondary Piston. Add the return spring and secondary Piston assembly on top of the cylinder bore then position the new primary Piston assembly. Apply the new Piston retainer by pressing down on the tool's smooth tip. Place the master cylinder reservoir on the cylinder next and put on the cap and diaphragm at the end. Put the master cylinder back into the vehicle after setup.
