2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Start your Brake Booster replacement by removing the components such as the hood rear seal, left side air inlet screen, Brake Booster vacuum hose and clamp from the check valve. Take the master cylinder off its Brake Booster position before taking out the left side i/p insulator. Loosen the Brake Pedal nuts to remove the Brake Booster attachment points with bracket and the Brake Pedal. When replacing the clutch you should loosen the clutch master cylinder nuts. Leese the Brake Booster pushrod from the Brake Pedal lever pin while you remove its pushrod retainer and washer from within the car. Then tilt the Brake Booster gently to disconnect the pushrod without applying excessive side pressure. Take off the power Brake Booster unit from the vehicle. Install the power Brake Booster by aligning it with the vehicle base. As needed, tip the unit to connect the Brake Booster pushrod smoothly to Brake Pedal lever pin. Wear gloves to slide in the brake pushrod washer and retainer on their respective engine-side locations. Install the Brake Booster bottom nuts into the Brake Pedal bracket at 20 nm (15ft.lbs). Fasten them in this precise order: inboard upper, outboard lower, outboard upper, and inboard lower. For cars with manual transmission you should tighten the clutch master cylinder nuts to 20 ft. Lbs at 27 nm. Screw the master cylinder into place on the Brake Booster and fasten it using the master cylinder nuts. Tighten them to a torque setting of 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). Reach the vacuum hose back to its position at the check valve before installing the left insulator, air inlet filter, and hood seal. Finally, bleed the brakes.
