2002 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Begin the vacuum Brake Booster replacement by taking off the hood rear seal, left side air inlet clearing, and Brake Booster Vacuum Hose with clamp from its check valve connection. Remove the master cylinder from Brake Booster before disconnecting the left side i/p insulator. Take off the Brake Booster's nuts which anchor the unit at the Brake Pedal with its bracket. A vehicle with a manual transmission requires you to loosen the clutch master cylinder nuts. Slide out the Brake Booster moderately while avoiding heavy pressure to remove the Brake Booster pushrod from the Brake Pedal lever pin through the built-in pushrod retainer/bushing components. After placing the new Brake Booster in the vehicle position the Brake Booster pushrod to match its pin on the Brake Pedal by tilting it slightly before fitting all components together. Put the Brake Pedal pushrod washer and retainer in place from the vehicle interior. Fasten the Brake Booster to the Brake Pedal assembly using four nuts but tighten them step by step according to this sequence: first the inboard upper hole, then outboard lower, followed by outboard upper and ending with the inboard lower hole. You need to tighten the manual transmission clutch master cylinder nuts to 20 ft. Lbs. Force (27 Nm). The master cylinder connects onto the Brake Booster first followed by master cylinder nut installation and torque application at 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs). Replace the vacuum connection and clamp to the check valve while putting back the left instrument insulator and ac screen before reburning the engine hood rear seal. Finally, bleed the brakes.
