2002 Chevrolet Camaro Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: You must empty the brake fluid from the reservoir before disconnecting brake pipes from the master cylinder and removing its Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector. First untighten and remove all master cylinder nuts before pulling out the master cylinder. Before installation you should bleed air from the master cylinder on the workbench. Fasten the master cylinder nuts tightly to 29 nm using a socket wrench. Securely connect the brake pipes to the master cylinder while tightening by hand and add a soft cloth beneath them. Have an assistant press the Brake Pedal as you pour brake fluid into the master cylinder reservoir to remove the air from loose connections of the brake assembly pipes. After depressing the Brake Pedal keep fastening the brake pipe fittings to 32 nm (24 ft. Lbs.). Try the engine when the Brake Pedal stays strong and high; drive the car if this condition continues. Brake performance will improve when you bleed the entire brake hydraulic system due to its soft pedal feel. Disassemble and throw away the cloth underneath the master cylinder before reconnecting the Brake Fluid Level Sensor connection.
