2001 Chevrolet Camaro Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Before starting with Brake Pad replacement check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid. You can replace the pads without draining the fluid when it shows between the highest and lowest markings. Place vehicle supports underneath the vehicle while you raise it. Then take off the wheel and tire combination to work on the brakes. Install the rotor by firmly hand tightening its wheel lug nut to lock it to the hub. Apply a big c-clamp onto the brake caliper body with its ends pressing against the caliper back. Insert a wood block or used pad onto the caliper piston to compress it until it passes past the rotor. Keep the caliper adequately supported with mechanic's wire to protect the flexible brake hose when you remove its guide bolts and take off the caliper. Take off the caliper bracket and brake pads, examine the Brake Pad retainers during inspection. If the caliper slide boots show damage you should replace them right away. Position the Brake Pad wear sensor to the trailing edge before installing new brake pads and Brake Pad retainers onto the rotor when it spins forward. Affix the brake caliper to its bracket by fastening guide pin bolts to 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Put back the tire and wheel unit. Let the vehicle drop. With the engine turned off apply the Brake Pedal in small steps until it reaches 2/3rds of its regular position before releasing. Continue applying the Brake Pedal gently until you meet the right resistance which allows the caliper pistons and brake pads to take their proper position. After installing the parts you should pour braking fluid into the master cylinder until it hits the proper mark and then run the wheels to align the pads and rotors.
