2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front parking brake cable on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The front Parking Brake Cable replacement requires using the Parking Brake Cable release tool (J 37043). Start by placing the lever of the park brake hand down to deactivate the adjuster pawl before properly supporting the vehicle. Extend the front cable strand until it reaches its maximum length and maintains position before removing the two cables from the rear section of the equalizer. The j 37043 tool should be used to remove the park brake front cable fitting from its bracket before extracting the cable grommet from the underbody area. Once you lower the vehicle you should remove the park brake spring together with the floor console while keeping the lever in the upward position. Place the park brake lever into its down position before you rotate the adjuster arm forward until it reaches its maximum point. Then you should bend the tab at the barrel-shaped front cable end so the cable strand can pass through. Discard the barrel-shaped component from the pulley adjuster track before disassembling the front park brake cable from the lever by using j 37043. The loose cable needs to be extracted from the Floor Pan. When installing the park brake front cable and grommet one must insert them through the Floor Pan slot using soapy water for lubrication together with a small, curved, flat-ended pry bar to set the grommet correctly. Install the barrel-shaped front cable end fitting at the adjuster track and adjust the adjuster arm toward the back to mount the adjuster spring. The installation process requires putting the park brake lever down then raising the supported vehicle to connect the rear fitting of the front cable conduit to the Floor Pan bracket and pulling the equalizer back until it stops before reconnecting the rear cables to the equalizer. The last step involves lowering the vehicle while performing three cycles of the park brake lever before you replace the front floor console.
