2001 Chevrolet Camaro Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear parking brake cable on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The parking brake cable replacement process requires complete disconnection of the park brake lever where the handle should remain down and brake indicator lamp should be dark. Properly elevate the vehicle before setting it on a support system. Utilize the front cable strand to extend it fully until it reaches a stop point then eliminate the tie strap utility. Follow the instructions on J 37043 to remove the rear cable from the underbody bracket through compression of the retainer fingers on the conduit casing followed by pulling the cable from its bracket position. The procedure requires two rear park brake cables to be extracted from the park brake cable equalizer. Direct the rear park brake cable through rear axle housing guides until it reaches the lever on the park brake actuator where the eyelet can be released. The Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J 37043) should be used to compress the retainer fingers on the conduit fitting while pulling the rear cable from the cable bracket. Start by placing the rear conduit fitting onto the park brake cable bracket and after that attach the rear cable eyelet to the park brake actuator lever. You need to position the retainer fingers into the park brake cable bracket followed by pulling the rear cable through each guide on the rear axle housing. The routing of the left-hand cable must cross over the tie rod bracket. Join the rear park brake cable end with the park brake cable equalizer after installing the rear cable into its underbody bracket when removal of the original tie strap was required. Lower the vehicle and perform three cycles of the park brake lever operation.
