2000 Chevrolet Camaro Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step towards replacing the Evaporator core is to drain engine coolant while recovering the refrigerant. Begin by detaching the Heater Core and you should remove the temperature control cable bolt along with the cable from the module. The nex step involves taking off the accumulator bolt at the module while discarding the o-ring seal. You should next uninstall the air conditioning (NC) Evaporator tube bolt from the module while disposing of the o-ring seal. The heater rear case requires removal of its bolts before dropping it to free the upper case clip for complete separation. Use a small hand saw to cut the perforated part of the hvac Evaporator module for reusing purposes while setting up a mat underneath on the passenger floor to catch any water leak. Users must remove the a/c Evaporator bracket nut followed by the bracket before taking out bolts located on the engine compartment side of the a/c Evaporator upper and lower case to create a slight opening. After removing the Evaporator seal and the Evaporator you should transfer the Evaporator air filter to the new part. Place the new a/c Evaporator as well as a new a/c Evaporator seal while applying sealer between the Evaporator upper and lower case but avoid using epoxy glue. Secure the bolts to the engine compartment side of the a/c Evaporator upper and lower case while tightening them to 2 n.m (18 in). Reinstall the a/c Evaporator bracket by securing its bracket bolt at 2 nm torque. Set the perforated portion of the Evaporator module in place and bond it with epoxy glue while waiting for the adhesive to dry. A watertight condition requires you to grade the sealant from both the interior and exterior surfaces. Installation of the heater rear case begins with sliding it upward to let the upper clip engage followed by snap engagement on the left edge to the distributor case while installing bolts which require a torque setting of 2.0 n.m (18 lb in). Fasten the new o-ring seal first then install and tighten the a/c Evaporator tube bolt at the module to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Fasten the module with another new o-ring seal before installing the accumulator bolt. Then tighten it to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Use the bolt to connect the temperature control cable on the module while tightening it to 1.9 n.m (17 lb in). Put back the Heater Core then recharge the refrigerant before filling up the cooling system.
