2001 Chevrolet Camaro Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The process to replace the Evaporator core starts with hvac module and heater rear case bolt removal before you slide the heater rear case downwards to separate the upper case clip for total extraction. Position a mat on the floor near the passenger side to capture water leaks while using a small hand saw to cut out the Evaporator module holes that can be used again. Begin by uninstalling the bracket nut attached to the a/c Evaporator followed by removing its bracket. Proceed to pop out the a/c Evaporator seal and Evaporator by loosening the bolts from the engine compartment side of the upper and lower case before slightly opening the case. Safely place the old a/c Evaporator air filter onto the new Evaporator before installing the new a/c Evaporator and applying sealer to both cases of the Evaporator using no epoxy glue. Install the a/c Evaporator bracket after tightening its bolt to 2 n.m (18 lb in) and then secure the a/c Evaporator case bolts to 2 n.m (18 lb in). Expose the perforated section of the Evaporator module then glue it with epoxy while the glue dries before grading the sealant both inside and outside for water tight performance. The heater rear case assembly requires sliding it upwards to engage the upper clip while attaching the left edge to the distributor case before installing and tightening bolts at 2.0 n.m (18 lb in). The last installation step is to place the hvac module while performing an evacuation of and charging the refrigerant system.
