2002 Chevrolet Camaro Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2002 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: First remove the HVAC module assembly then disassemble the heater rear case bolts. Slide the heater rear case downward to reveal the upper case clip before you remove it together with the heater rear case. Before disposal of the evaporator case section, use a small hand saw to cut out the perforated part. Then position a mat strategically on the passenger floor to absorb possible water leaks from the carpeting. To begin take out the A/C evaporator bracket nut together with the bracket before unfastening all bolts from the engine bay side of the A/C evaporator upper and lower case and carefully opening the case to remove the A/C evaporator seal and evaporator. The A/C evaporator air filter requires transfer to the new evaporator before its installation. The technicians must install the new A/C evaporator together with its new A/C evaporator seal while applying sealer to the evaporator upper and lower case areas except epoxy glue. The procedure requires tightening both bolts on the A/C evaporator case to 2 N.m (18 lb in). Reinstall the A/C evaporator bracket by torquing the bracket bolt to 2 N.m (18 lb in). Place the perforated evaporator section in its appropriate position and apply epoxy glue to fix it to the module followed by epoxy drying time. A water-tight condition will exist when you apply sealant along both the inside and outside portions. Position the heater rear case so its upper clip enters first then join the left edge to the distributor case followed by securing all bolts at 2.0 N.m (18 lb in). Both these steps should be followed by the HVAC module installation and the procedure for evacuating then charging the refrigerant system.
