Vehicle technicians should begin by raising the vehicle before removing any Transfer Case shields that exist. Initiate removal of the front propeller shaft followed by the exhaust crossover pipe. Start by removing the inner sleeve then move onto the outer piece of the seal when changing the front output shaft seal. Install the seal with dexron iii oil (GM P/N12346143) by using j35870 for grips from the start of production through midyear 1999 or j43484 for midyear 1999 and later seals while ensuring proper seal alignment. To guarantee proper performance measure and add oil when needed after finishing the installation procedure for the Transfer Case. Reinstall the front propeller shaft followed by the exhaust crossover pipe. Transfer Case shields should be installed only if applicable before lowering the vehicle.
