- Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2000 GMC Savana 3500?A: Start replacement of the upper Intake Manifold by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable. You must first remove the engine cover alongside the air cleaner intake duct. The process requires removing the electrical connector which feeds fuel injectors and also disconnecting the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor along with the evap canister purge solenoid valve and idle air control (IAC) solenoid and throttle position (TP) sensor. You can disconnect the vacuum brake booster hose and the pcv tube by using counterclockwise twisting. Detach the Spark Plug Wires from the left Distributor Cap side before removing fuel lines from the engine's rear area together with any air bypass hose assemblies. Disconnect the following parts for the repair: throttle body and Intake Manifold as well as the throttle shaft cable that contains the accelerator control cable and cruise control cable and the accelerator control cable bracket. Start by cleaning all sealing surfaces before breaking the upper Intake Manifold bolts and pulling out the upper Intake Manifold. Start by placing the upper Intake Manifold onto the engine. Torque each stud to 12 nm (44 inch lbs.) followed by an additional 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) for the second pass. Secure the accelerator control cable bracket to the Throttle Body and lower Intake Manifold with bolt and nut torques set to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Reinstall the throttle shaft connections for accelerator control and cruise control cables followed by installation of evap canister purge solenoid valve and fuel pipes followed by Distributor Cap left-side plug wire connections. The installation order includes fitting the pcv tube by turning the locking mechanism and the vacuum brake booster hose and the air bypass hose assembly. The next step involves connecting three electrical components along with the MAP Sensor and three additional solenoids and the tp sensor. Finish the installation by moving forward with the air cleaner intake duct and engine cover while reconnecting the battery negative cable.
