2001 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a system on 2001 Buick Century?
A: Instead of replacing the accumulator, first recover the refrigerant. After that, take off the air cleaner assembly and loosen the accumulator hose nut from the accumulator and then disconnect the accumulator hose. Then unfasten the a/c compressor hose block fitting nut from the accumulator and disconnect the a/c compressor hose. Following that, remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt and accumulator bracket bolt clamp such that you can extract the accumulator from the mounting bracket. To install the accumulator, mount it again onto the mounting bracket and tighten the accumulator bracket bolt clamp to 4 n.m (36 lb in). Mount the accumulation and hold the device in place using the accumulator bracket retaining bolt that should also be tightened to 4 n.m (36 lb in) as well. Coat new o-ring seals and seal washers with a mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil prior to installing the new o-ring seals onto the a/c compressor hose or the accumulator hose. Fix the accumulator hose to accumulator and tighten the accumulator hose nut to 47 n.m (35 lb ft). Next, attach the a/c compressor hose to the accumulator and screw in the a/c compressor hose block fitting nut up to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Lastly, re-install the air cleaner assembly, flush and charge the a/c system, and conduct a leak test on the fittings of the component with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
