Before installing the A/C Accumulator which has ac p/n 15-1696 between condenser and Evaporator on the a/c Evaporator tube it is necessary to perform a leak test with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) on each fitting after completion. Start by extracting the refrigerant before removing the Evaporator tube from the motor vehicle to proceed. Use a tubing cutter to cut the Evaporator tube at 110 mm (4.3 in) distance from the condenser block fitting end while making sure metal shavings stay outside of the tube. Cut the tube again at 60 mm (2.4 in) while properly removing all burrs from the cut surfaces. When preparing to fit ferrules to the Evaporator tube remove the o-ring that was inside the A/C Accumulator. Fit one flare nut along with one ferrule to the Evaporator tube so the tapered end faces the flare nut before fully seating the A/C Accumulator to the tube by directing it towards the Evaporator with proper tightening to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Seal the second half of the Evaporator tube by applying torque to both parts just like the first side. Reinstall the accumulator after the flare nuts are loosened while properly aligning the arrow marker towards the Evaporator and tightening both flare nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Installation of the Evaporator tube to the condenser tube must be done before you remove the air cleaner assembly and execute evacuation and recharging of the a/c system.

The first step when replacing the A/C Accumulator is to recoup the refrigerant. Phase one demands removal of the left front fender upper diagonal brace followed by air cleaner assembly installation. You should loose the A/C Accumulator flare nuts after applying caps or tape to seal the open front evaporator tube combined with the condenser to stop contamination. The A/C Accumulator needs removal from the evaporator tube before discarding its o-ring. Move the tape or cap from the evaporator tubes while adding lubrication to the ends before placing new o-rings on each tube termination. The successful operation of the A/C Accumulator demands proper insertion of the accumulator into its ferrules to achieve o-ring sealing within the accumulator housing. The A/C Accumulator requires installation on the evaporator tube with arrow pointing to the evaporator while tightening flare nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). After replacing these components the air cleaner assembly along with the left front fender upper diagonal brace needs to be restored. The a/c system evacuation follows with recharging then fittings need halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) testing before completing the maintenance work.

The procedure to replace the A/C Accumulator begins by recovering refrigerant followed by removing the left front fender upper diagonal brace. The installation of the air cleaner assembly should begin while users loosen the A/C Accumulator flare nuts followed by immediate front evaporator tube and condenser covering to stop contamination. After discarding the o-ring begin the replacement of the A/C Accumulator from the evaporator tube. Next step is evaporator tube cap or tape removal followed by lubricating and assembling a fresh o-ring to each tube end. Complete seating of the A/C Accumulator on its ferrules must be done to allow the o-ring to position correctly inside the accumulator housing. Fitting the accumulator for a/c refrigerant to an evaporator tube requires arrow placement toward the evaporator and proper torqueing the flare nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Reinstall the air cleaner unit together with the left front fender upper diagonal brace. The process ends with evacuation and recharging of the a/c system followed by halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) testing the component fittings.

The first step to install the A/C Accumulator (A/C Delco P/N 151696) involves refrigerant retrieval before positioning it on the a/c Evaporator tube between the condenser and Evaporator. Apply a tubing cutter just before the condenser block fitting end to cut the Evaporator tube at a measurement of 110 mm (4.3 inches) while being cautious not to allow metal shavings into the tube. You should next cut a second section of Evaporator tube to 60 mm (2.4 in) and implement burr removal from both ends of the tube. Removal of the o-ring from the A/C Accumulator should be performed before inserting ferrules into the Evaporator tube. The tapered aspect of the ferrule should face the flare nut when installing one nut and one ferrule onto the Evaporator tube so that the A/C Accumulator rests completely against the tube with its arrow facing toward the Evaporator. Torque the flare nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Perform the same method to apply the remaining flare nut to the second half of the Evaporator tube and maintain the same torque value. The technician needs to first remove the A/C Accumulator by loosening the flare nuts followed by placing lubricating the o-ring and installing it on each end of the Evaporator tube to make sure the accumulator sits properly against the ferrules for successful o-ring seating. Reinstall the A/C Accumulator by turning its arrow toward the Evaporator and tighten its flare nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The final steps include putting back the Evaporator tube to its position on the condenser tube followed by air cleaner assembly removal before evacuating and recharging the a/c system with halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) for fitting evaluation.

Start the installation of the A/C Accumulator (ACDelco P/N 151696) by recovering any refrigerant. Cut the evaporator tube 110 mm (4.3 in) from the condenser block fitting end by using a tubing cutter and avoid letting any metal shavings enter the tube. Cut the tube to 60 mm (2.4 in) after measuring it and remove burrs from both cut ends. The first step before ferrule installation on the evaporator tube requires removal of the o-ring which will be used with the A/C Accumulator. Install the taper-end of both ferrules along with one flare nut on the evaporator tube before seating the A/C Accumulator fully on the tube by making the arrow face the evaporator. Tighten the evaporator flare nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) torque. Follow the same tightening process for the second half of the evaporator tube by using a torque of 15 n.m (11 lb ft). First loosen the flare nuts so you can remove the A/C Accumulator before lubricating and installing an o-ring to both ends of the evaporator tube to ensure complete accumulator seat to the ferrules. The A/C Accumulator should be installed back in place with the arrow facing the evaporator and its flare nuts tightened to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Finish the process by installing the evaporator tube to the condenser tube followed by reassembly of the air cleaner unit then evacuation and recharging of the a/c system and conducting halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) tests on the fittings.

Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt and the accumulator bracket bolt clamp, then take the accumulator out of the mounting bracket.

Reinstall the air cleaner assembly, evacuate and recharge the A/C system, and perform a leak test on the fittings using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).

Install new O-ring seals onto the A/C compressor hose and the accumulator hose.

Lubricate them with a mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil, then install them onto the compressor hose and the suction hose.

Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt and the accumulator bracket bolt clamp.

Discard the O-ring.

Evacuate and charge the system, then inspect for leaks.

The Electronic Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).

Perform a leak test on the fittings of the component using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).

Remove the left front fender upper diagonal brace and install the air cleaner assembly.
