- Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on 2002 Buick Century?A: To replace accumulator, first recover refrigerant. Remove air cleaner assembly, and detach accumulator hose nut, then hose from accumulator. Secondly, remove the a/c compressor hose block nut and remove the a/c compressor hose from the accumulator. Lift out the accumulator from the mounting bracket after having removed the accumulator bracket retaining bolt and the accumulator bracket bolt clamp. For installation, mount the accumulator back onto the mounting bracket and tighten the accumulator bracket bolt clamp 4 n.m (36 lb in). Install the accumulator and fix it with accumulator bracket retaining bolt and tightening 4 n.m (36 lb in). Mount new o-ring seals to the a/c compressor hose and accumulator hose and hook the accumulator hose back up to the accumulator then tighten the nut on the accumulator hose to 47 n.m (35 lb ft). At this point, pull hose a/c compressor and connect to the accumulator, screw in a/c compressor hose nut with 16n.m (12 lb ft). Lastly, reinstall air cleaner assembly, evacuate and charge the a/c system, and perform a leak test on fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
