2001 Buick Century ABS Control Module Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How should the ABS Control Module be replaced to ensure safety and proper installation on 2001 Buick Century?
A: The brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) replacement demands a whole new component instead of repair work because screw handling beyond ebcm/ebtcm attachment might cause leakage and harm operators. To start the bmw bpmv replacement process turn off the ignition key followed by removing cruise control bolts before setting the module to the side. Push down the lock tab while disengaging the red locking tab from the connector to open the sliding connector cover for disconnecting the ebcm harness connector. Record the positions of the brake pipes with installation in mind. The bpmv requires removal of wheel cylinder brake pipes followed by proper coverage to stop any possible contamination. The brake pipes connected to the master cylinder should not be removed from the master cylinder while disconnecting them from the bpmv. After disconnecting these pipes from the bpmv, cover their open ends. You must remove all installing hardware consisting of nuts from the bpmv mounting bracket at both locations as well as the bottom bolt and top nut which connects the mounting bracket to the strut tower before disconnecting the chassis-ground strap. Toward the beginning of the bpmv mounting bracket and ebcm assembly removal proceed you must protect the exterior from brake fluid spillage. Necessary first step is to loosen all four bolts that join the bpmv to its mounting bracket. Only when replacing the bpmv begins with installing the ebcm onto the bpmv before proceeding with the assembly of bpmv and ebcm onto the mounting bracket . Connect the bpmv assembly to its mounting bracket through four bolts and torque these fasteners to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Mount the bpmv bracket to the strut tower while fixing it with one bolt and three nuts according to the torque specifications of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) for the first pair and 3 nm (27 inch lbs.) for the upper-most nut. The correct connection of brake pipes to the bpmv ensures wheel lockup prevention and scan tool or antilock stop procedures can verify this connection. During new bpmv installation the shipping plugs should be taken out from the valve opening ports. The master cylinder brake pipes need to be installed into the bpmv followed by tightening the fittings to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The wheel cylinder brake pipes must be attached to the bpmv followed by tightening all four fittings to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the ebcm assembly to chassis ground by restoring the strap while connecting the harness and pressing the lock tab for the sliding cover before reinstalling its locking tab. The Cruise Control Module needs replacement before concluding the abs bleed process with the automated procedure.
