2001 Buick Century Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the power steering pump on 2001 Buick Century?
A: Begin replacement of the Power Steering Pump by placing a drain pan underneath the vehicle and separating the coolant recovery reservoir then setting it aside. Begin by removing the accessory Drive Belt from the Power Steering Pump pulley followed by disconnecting the ignition control wiring harness that is in proximity to the pump. Disengage the power steering pressure hose along with the power steering return hose from the pump and then remove the pump mounting bolts. After pump extraction the Power Steering Pump pulley and reservoir need to be detached from the pump. Proceed with installation by first adding the Power Steering Pump reservoir then adding the pulley. The pump needs to be placed on the motor before installing mounting bolts that require a tension of 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). Put back the power steering pressure hose along with the return hose while replacing the ignition control wiring harness. The power steering accessory Drive Belt needs to be put back on the pump pulley before reinstalling the coolant recovery reservoir. Power steering system filling with fluid must be followed by system bleeding before checking for any leaks after removing the drain pan from underneath the vehicle.
