2001 Buick LeSabre Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before starting work. If the fluid stands at the middle point between maximum height and minimum limits you can proceed without fluid removal but if it hits above the middle raise the fluid to that level. Lift and stabilize the automobile while taking the tire and wheel set apart. Using a big c-clamp to push the Brake Caliper Piston will harm its internal components if you move the piston further than 1mm (0.039 inch). You must push the Brake Caliper Piston until it meets resistance then take off both the park brake cable bolt from the Control Arm and the bottom caliper pin bolt. Make sure the brake hose stays safe during work by supporting the caliper with strong wires before raising and fixing the brake caliper body upward. Check the Brake Pad holders inside and outside the Brake Caliper Bracket as you detach the components. Look for Brake Caliper Bolt suspension boots that fail and replace them when needed. Replace damaged brake caliper pin bolts if they have corroded and test the Brake Caliper Piston boot for decay. Insert a spanner wrench into the brake piston cutouts to push its piston into the brake cylinder coordinated with the Brake Pad alignment pins. Apply high temperature silicone lube to the brake caliper bolts and parts. Place the pad retainers inside the bracket and install inboard then outboard brake pads. Lower the brake caliper onto the brake pads in their bracket then bolt the lower brake caliper pin in position and tighten it to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle and place back the wheel before tightening the guide bolt to 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) on the Control Arm. Keep the engine off and work gradually to push the Brake Pedal to 2/3 of its range then relax your foot to make sure the breaking calipers and brake pads are correctly positioned. Add brake fluid up to the correct amount before using the brake servo to smooth out both components.
