2001 Buick LeSabre Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J29803-A ISO Flaring Kit on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: To replace the brake pipe, one can use the J29803-A ISO Flaring Kit (J29803-A), making sure to use double-walled steel brake pipe to avoid a failure of the brake system. Start by getting the right size of pipe and steel fitting nuts depending on the outside diameter of the pipe before proceeding with any other installation procedure. Cut the pipe square and to correct length with the help of a hack saw the old pipe's length + 3.2mm (0.125 inch) for every ISO flare. Prior to flaring, install the fittings; deburr the internal and external pipe ends using a de-burring tool, and remove lubricant from the brake pipe and J29803-A; determine the appropriate size collet and forming mandrel and present for the pipe in question; insert the mandrel into J29803-A making sure it is held in place. Thread in the forcing screw just until it comes in contact with the mandrel, then turn it back one full turn. Slide the clamping nut on to the brake pipe, place the prepared pipe with about 19 mm (0.750 inch) coming out into the collet with the pipe end touching the mandrel face. Tighten the clamping nut securely, wrench tightly the forcing screw until it bottoms without over-tightening after then back off the clamping nut then disassemble the collet assembly. Measure the diameter of the flare that should be between 6.92mm - 7.28mm (0.272inch - 0.286 inch) and should bend the new pipe like the old one using a tube bender. Keep a minimum clearance of 19 mm (0.75 inch) away from all moving components, 13 mm (0.50 inch) from all vibrating components, and 7 mm (0.25 inch) from any shielded lines other than clipped to a component.
