2001 Buick LeSabre Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: Before working on the booster you have to remove the fuel injector sight shield and take out both pieces of the accelerator control system plus its bracket. Detach the Cruise Control Module then release the electrical connector at the EGR Valve before unclipping engine harnesses and putting the wiring harness to one side. Separate the brake fluid level sensor wire from its connection and remove the master cylinder nuts to pull out the unit. Set the master cylinder off to the side after unwiring from the booster. To access the left knee bolster bracket take out the vacuum booster check valve plus left insulator panel. Lower the Steering Column by removing the support mounting nuts then disconnect the stoplamp/abs/shift lock switch and the tcc/cruise control release switch from the Brake Pedal. Take the Brake Booster foam spacer, pushrod retainer clip and pushrod off the Brake Pedal then detach its attaching nuts before taking the booster out of the vehicle while removing its gasket. To rebuild the booster you must first mount its gasket next to the unit before putting the booster back inside the vehicle. Then thread the booster pushrod through the Brake Pedal followed by pushing the booster pushrod spacer and retainer clip into place. Use a torque wrench to fasten booster attaching nuts onto booster studs until they reach 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Reassemble the Brake Pedal assembly connections before applying the tcc/regulate velocity control release switch and stoplamp/abs/shift lock switch to the pedal. Install the master cylinder onto the booster and fasten it with attached nuts tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install back the Steering Column components and position the left knee bolster bracket and left insulator panel. Attach the vacuum booster check valve to the vacuum booster unit. Join the Cruise Control Module on one wire end and attach the brake fluid level sensor cable connector. Next, secure the accelerator control cable bracket and cable assembly. Use the electrical connector to connect the EGR Valve then fit back the fuel injector sight shield after fixing the engine harness clips.
