2001 Buick LeSabre Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on 2001 Buick LeSabre?
A: Start by turning off the Ignition Switch and then raise the vehicle while following proper lifting procedures. Measure and remove the splash shield bolts even though hot engine coolant remains inside water jackets that will spill when removing the Knock Sensor. After draining the cooling system you must unscrew the two bolts from the Knock Sensor heat shield beneath the freeze plug or block heater if your vehicle has this option. First remove the Knock Sensor's electrical connector and then extract it from the engine block. The sensor's factory coating requires that no thread sealant be applied to the threads because it serves as the basis for proper detonation detection. Place the Knock Sensor into position within the engine block and torque the bolt to 19 n.m (14 lb ft). Secure the Knock Sensor heat shield by using 60 n.m of torque (44 lb ft torque). Fasten the electrical connector to the Knock Sensor after placing the splash shield then lower the vehicle while filling the cooling system and verifying the proper coolant level.
