2001 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold (3.8L) on 2001 Buick Regal?
A: The right Exhaust Manifold replacement (3.8L) requires disconnecting the battery ground cable before removing the fuel injector sight shield. The exhaust crossover pipe needs detachment and the vehicle must be lifted for necessary access. First remove the egr adapter pipe together with the three-way Catalytic Converter from the right Exhaust Manifold. The next step is to remove both retainer clips securing the wiring harness and heater hose to the fuel injector sight shield bracket before proceeding to remove the right Spark Plug Wires. First detach bolt and nut attaching the right engine lift bracket followed by bracket removal then unfasten the fuel injector sight shield bracket nuts. Remove all right Exhaust Manifold bolts and nuts except for the one behind the Oxygen Sensor before lowering the vehicle and rotating the engine forward to obtain better access. Users need to disconnect the Oxygen Sensor electrical connection followed by detaching the one remaining bolt to safely extract the right Exhaust Manifold along with its gasket. Disassemble the right Exhaust Manifold by removing its heat shields from both areas together with the heated Oxygen Sensor device while performing stud replacements if required. Begin the installation procedure by reinstalling the Exhaust Manifold studs which you had removed along with the heated Oxygen Sensor onto the right Exhaust Manifold. After securing both upper and lower right Exhaust Manifold heat shields you should install the right Exhaust Manifold Gasket and the right Exhaust Manifold in that order while placing the bolt behind the Oxygen Sensor. Fasten the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector before returning the engine to its former position. Additional right Exhaust Manifold bolts should be installed while elevating the vehicle before torquing them to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The fuel injector sight shield bracket and its associated nuts need installation with torque set to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Fasten the right engine lift bracket using its bolt and nut while torquing them to reach 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The right Spark Plug Wires and wiring harness should be installed to the fuel injector sight shield bracket while attaching its heater hose retaining clips. Connect the three-way Catalytic Converter to the right Exhaust Manifold and check for leaks at the egr pipe outlet only if the egr pipe removal occurred or replace the egr adapter when leaks are detected. Place the egr pipe onto the right Exhaust Manifold and fasten it with a torque of 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). When the vehicle reaches a low position install the exhaust crossover pipe together with the fuel injector sight shield before ending with the battery ground cable connection.
