2001 Buick Regal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2 on 2001 Buick Regal?
A: To replace the Knock Sensor (KS) 2, start by turning the Ignition Switch off, and lift the vehicle. Replace the bolts from the splash shield and empty the cooling system. Followed by removing the two bolts off the Knock Sensor heat shield under the freeze plug (or block heater if used). Replace the Knock Sensor wiring harness connector and remove the Knock Sensor from the block with the engine. For installation, avoid applying thread sealant to threads of the sensor as it is factory coated and important for proper detonation detection. Mount the Knock Sensor to the engine block and pull the sensor into place with a torque of 19 n.m (14 lb ft). Replace the Knock Sensor heat shield and tighten bolts to a torque of 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Connect the Knock Sensor to the electrical connector, replace the splash shield, lower the vehicle, and top the cooling system.
