2001 Cadillac DeVille Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a refrigerant system on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?
A: System recovery of refrigerant should be the first step before accumulator replacement. First remove the positive Battery Cable clamp from its position at the top of the accumulator cover before proceeding to detach the a/c line from its snap clamp on the accumulator cover. The first step involves removing the accumulator cover by unsnapping it from the accumulator before taking it off. The installer must disconnect the accumulator retainer then remove the accumulator by detaching both the evaporator hose assembly and suction hose from it. The first step for accumulator installation requires owners to check and replace worn sealing washers without applying lubrication since they cannot be lubricated. Take the evaporator hose assembly to the accumulator before tightening its retaining nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). After mounting the suction hose to the accumulator you must lock the retaining nut with the same torque requirement. You must attach the accumulator cap to the accumulator so all three snap fasteners become engaged before installing the a/c line into the snap clamp. After refrigerant charging you should fasten the positive cable to the clamp which sits on top of the accumulator. Leak detection of repaired or reinstalled component fittings needs to be performed using a halogen leak detector (J 39400).
