• Q: How to replace the wiper motor on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: You will need Wiper Transmission Separator (J 39232) and Wiper Transmission Installer (J 39529) as tools for this job. When starting work remove the wiper arms and air inlet grille panel first. Take off three bolted and two nutted segments holding the windshield frame reinforcement before extracting the reinforcement assembly. You can shift the wiper motor crank arm from park to its opposite position through manual movement of the wiper transmission system. Insert the wiper motor harness and grommet through the plenum hole by disconnecting its connector and removing the grommet from the plenum hole first. Unbolt the system drive through its three screws and pull the whole unit from the vehicle. Use the Wiper Transmission Separator J 39232 to disconnect the drive link from the wiper motor crank arm. Then take out the wiper motor when you remove the fasteners that hold it to the drive system module. Use 8 N.m (71 lb in) torque when screwing the wiper motor onto the wiper drive system module. Place the drive link onto the wiper motor crank arm by using the Wiper Transmission Installer part number J 39529. Put the wiper module into the upper plenum with the wiper motor facing down until it reaches the proper position and rotate to direct its nose toward the vehicle's back. Fasten the wiper drive system module with three screws at a torque of 8 N.m (71 lb in). Press the harness and grommet through the plenum hole before joining the wiper motor connectors and fixing the grommet back in the plenum hole. Secure the windshield frame reinforcement with its bolt set and two nuts before tightening everything to 9 N.m. Then put back the air inlet grille panel and wiper arms. Use the wipers to test if they function correctly.
