2001 Cadillac Eldorado Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2001 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Before you work on the front brake pads check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Drain fluid from the system up to the midpoint when the reservoir fluid is above average levels. When raised and supported lift off the tire and wheel set. Place a wide c-clamp over the brake caliper body and secure its tips against the brake rotor backside and Brake Pad outer area. After compressing the piston enough for it to pass through the rotor, tighten the clamp. Uninstall the c-clamp and bottom brake caliper pin bolt unity. Secure the brake caliper with strong wire mechanics tools to defend the brake's hydraulic tube from harm. Shift the caliper body from its position without disconnecting the hose. Apply a second large c-clamp pushing the piston down using an old Brake Pad or a wood plank until piston compression is complete. First detach the c-clamp plus brake pads. Take the brake pads out of their bracket and inspect Brake Pad holders for wear. Look for damage to the suspension boots of caliper bolts and replace faulty parts. Also examine caliper pin bolts for corrosion and replace them when found to be damaged. Check the Brake Caliper Piston boot for wear when replacing and apply silicone lube to high-temperature front brake caliper pin bolts. Set both brake pads into the caliper bracket first before lowering the caliper over the pads to position it in the bracket. Place the bottom brake caliper pin bolt and firmly tighten it to 63 ft. Lbs. (85 Nm). Install the wheel parts and lower the vehicle before starting to apply the Brake Pedal up to its 2/3 mark then easing off pressure. You need to let the Brake Pedal go through full compression over a timed period to place the brake caliper pistons properly in their position. Fill the master cylinder reservoir correctly then let the system run to seat Brake Pad and rotor surfaces.
