• Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2001 Cadillac Seville?

  A: To remove the engine front cover, besides removing the drive belt tensioner, drive belt idler pulley bolt and the drive belt idler pulley, which should be removed first, should be considered. Then remove the crankshaft balancer and the right Engine Mount Bracket, and remove the engine front cover bolts. Gently remove the engine front cover and the gasket, and store the latter (used) in a safe place, since it will be needed for assembly, as long as it is in good condition. For the installation, apply a little bit of sealant (GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent) to the split line between the upper and lower crankcases, then install the engine front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins and install the engine front cover onto the crankcase. Install engine front cover retaining bolts and tighten to 10 nm (89 inch lbs) in the given sequence. Replace the crankshaft balancer and the right Engine Mount Bracket along with a drive belt idler pulley and bolt to be tightened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Last but not least, tighten the drive belt tensioner.
