  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Clutch on a V5 Direct Mount Compressor on 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier?
    A: Begin v5 direct mount compressor clutch servicing and repair by placing the shaft key in the hub key groove at a 3.2 mm (1/8 in) position outside the keyway while ensuring curved interference between shaft key components. After cleaning all surfaces the clutch plate and clutch rotor receive the shaft key through proper alignment to fit within the shaft keyway of the clutch plate and hub assembly before mounting it onto the compressor shaft. Remove the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) by pulling its center screw from its body before installing it into the opposite end. Place the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) and bearing tools on the clutch plate and hub assembly. Then free up the tool body enough to thread the center screw on the compressor shaft but avoid tightening it. Position a wrench onto the center screw while using it to turn the hex portion of the hub and drive plate installer body multiple times before removing it to maintain the shaft key position. Reinstall the hub and drive plate installer (J 33013-B) and place a 0.40 mm (0.015 in) feeler gauge between the clutch plate and clutch rotor while tightening the hex portion until the air gap remains even across the assembly. With the clutch hub holding tool (J 33027-A) hold the clutch plate and hub assembly while installing the compressor shaft nut to a torque of 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Use hand power to rotate the pulley rotor until it shows no contact with the clutch drive plate before extracting the compressor from the compressor holding fixture (J 41790).
