• Q: How to replace a water pump on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?

  A: Before replacing the Water Pump remove an air cleaner intake duct and an accessory Drive Belt and drain a cooling system. Rearrange the Water Pump inlet and outlet hose clamps and take off the inlet and outlet hoses, rearrange heater inlet and surge tank outlet hose clamps and remove those hoses respectively. Next, after removing the engine oil cap, remove the Water Pump bolts and the water-pump itself, together with the water-pump gaskets. Pre-clean and examine the Water Pump prior to fitting. Attach the Water Pump and gaskets to the engine block without being overzealous in ensuring that Water Pump bolts are tightened on the first pass at 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.); second pass at 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect the heater inlet and surge tank outlet hoses back to the Water Pump, place the appropriate hose clamps, and then install back both the inlet and outlet hoses along with their clamps. Lastly, install the accessory Drive Belt, refill the cooling system and then reattach the air cleaner intake duct.
