2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Start the right Exhaust Manifold replacement process by dismounting the windshield wiper motor cover together with the air cleaner intake duct and accelerator cable bracket from the Throttle Body. The engine should be rotated to achieve better visibility during removal tasks regarding the manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor as well as the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe and ignition module and ignition coils with bracket and right side spark plugs and heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor electrical connector. Discard the evaporative emissions (EVAP) solenoid bracket together with exhaust crossover heat shield bolts before removing the heat shield from its position. The exhaust crossover pipe nuts from the right Exhaust Manifold require removal along with raising and supporting the vehicle to remove the Catalytic Converter, Exhaust Manifold heat shield bolts, heat shields, manifold nuts and finally the manifold with its gasket. Examine the right Exhaust Manifold surfaces for cleanliness and perform a visual inspection of the mating location before removing the heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor if replacing the manifold. To install the heated oxygen (HO2S) sensor, start by placing it first followed by application of the Exhaust Manifold Gasket and Exhaust Manifold and torque the manifold nuts to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Attach the Exhaust Manifold heat shields beginning with the lower and upper components while securing their bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). After reinstalling the Catalytic Converter the vehicle must be lowered while attaching the exhaust crossover pipe nuts to the right Exhaust Manifold followed by heat shield installation with its bolts fastened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reconnecting the evap solenoid bracket comes after attaching the ho2s sensor electrical connector and installing the right side Spark Plug Wires. The last installation steps include fitting the ignition module along with ignition coils that use the bracket and mounting the EGR Valve to the Intake Manifold and the MAP Sensor and completing engine rotation to its original position before reinstalling the accelerator cable bracket and Throttle Body air inlet duct and windshield wiper motor cover.
