2001 GMC Jimmy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator to the A/C evaporator tube on 2001 GMC Jimmy?
A: The installation of the A/C Accumulator (AC P/N 15-1697) to the a/c Evaporator tube between the condenser and Evaporator requires the use of halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) as the primary tool. To start the process first remove both the pcm unit together with the engine Coolant Reservoir. Turn the accumulator nut at the Evaporator before you relocate the accumulator so you can access the Evaporator tube. Use measurements starting from the high side access port bend to locate 100 mm (4 in) past the point then extend 50.8 mm (2 in) forward from the mark on the Evaporator tube. Place the tubing cutter above the marked part of the Evaporator tube and use it to make cuts while properly managing the entry of metal burrs. The process requires burrs to be smoothed off from the Evaporator tube and nut removal with ferrules and o-rings from the A/C Accumulator while waiting to install the o-rings separately. Insert each Evaporator tube portion into a nut and ferrule while placing the ferrule small end toward the nut before fitting an A/C Accumulator to the tube with its flow arrow facing the Evaporator. After installing the A/C Accumulator to the Evaporator tube, apply 525 viscosity refrigerant oil to the o-ring seals. Install the o-rings to the Evaporator tube before tightening the nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Fit the A/C Accumulator nuts and fasten them to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Afterwards install the accumulator onto the Evaporator section while tightening the Evaporator-connecting nut to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). The accumulator bracket should be positioned at a 60 mm (2.36 in) distance toward the high side access port before performing a/c system evacuation and recharging. Use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to check for leaks before completing the installation by putting back the engine Coolant Reservoir and the pcm.
