2001 GMC Jimmy Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor on 2001 GMC Jimmy?
A: Repair of the camshaft position (CMP) sensor begins by removing Spark Plug Wires and ignition coil wire from the Distributor together with disconnecting the cmp sensor harness connector from this Distributor. The Distributor Cap requires removal of screws while removing the cap and proceeding to remove rotor screws along with the rotor. First position the square slot from the reluctor wheel opposite the cmp sensor and afterwards remove the cmp screws to extract the cmp sensor. Install the new screws by applying thread locking compound to them since the old parts including the Distributor Cap, cmp sensor, and rotor screws will not be used. The cmp sensor should be pushed through the reluctor wheel slot followed by new cmp mounting screws installation and tightening to 2.2 n.m (20 lb in). Position the rotor onto the reluctor wheel after which you must use new rotor screws to fasten it properly at 2 n.m (18 lb in). Attach the Distributor Cap and fasten it using new Distributor Cap screws which should be tightened to 2.4 n.m (21 lb in). The process ends with connecting the cmp sensor harness connector and restoring both the Spark Plug Wires and ignition coil wire.
