2001 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear trunk latch on 2001 GMC Safari?
A: To handle the liftgate latch replacement you must first take off the garnish molding followed by disconnecting the minivan control rods from the lever. Drill out and loosen the screws that hold the liftgate latch in place. Afterwards remove the slide latch from the liftgate before taking off the control rod from both liftgate and liftgate latch assemblies. Secure the new latch by fitting it with the control rod to the liftgate and putting back new retainers when removing the control rods. Fasten the liftgate latch screws with a torque of 10 nm (88 lb.in.). Position the twice-connected actuator lever and control rod before pushing the control rod through its intended hole. Reinstall the liftgate garnish molding after completing the installation steps.
