2002 Buick Park Avenue A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator (AC Delco P/N 52474433) into the A/C evaporator tube on 2002 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The A/C Accumulator (AC Delco P/N 52474433) gets installed into the a/c evaporator tube (liquid line) below the condenser and above the evaporator by first removing the a/c line clip and opening the line at the orifice location. Wipe the a/c line with a clean cloth to avoid contamination and create two marks on the line that should be 50.8 mm (1.99 in) apart before cutting it in between the marks with great care to prevent any metal burrs from entering the line. Debur the accumulator cut edges while removing both the nuts and ferrules and o-ring components from the in-line accumulator without installing the o-rings during this stage. Place the ferule ends into the fluid path with the smaller segment facing the nuts. Secure ferrules onto the liquid tube by installing the nuts. Process both ends of the liquid line so the accumulator receives the line automatically at the lowest point inside the accumulator. Tighten the accumulator nuts while maintaining the line at constant bottom position within the accumulator then remove the accumulator from a/c line. Place 525 viscosity oil on the o-rings before mounting them to the a/c line. Place the accumulator with its arrow facing the evaporator and maintain the line in its lowest position before screwing the nuts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft). Tighten the a/c line fitting to 24 n.m (18 lb ft) as you place the line at the orifice location before installing it into the retainer. The final step includes evacuating and recharging of the a/c system while performing a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) check for both the in-line accumulator fittings and the orifice location.
