How to replace the rear trunk latch on 2002 Cadillac DeVille?

First open the rear compartment lid to remove and replace its latch assembly. Pull the locking latch of the handle retainer to slide it off the "T" slot and remove the interior release handle. Unplug the cable from the lock cylinder on both sides and use a screwdriver to unlock its holding tabs. Disconnect the electrical connector from the latch before you remove its holding fasteners on the rear compartment lid. Detach both rear compartment lid latch and release cable components from their holding points. Place the rear compartment lid latch onto the back and put the fasteners in place before tightening them to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Plug the electrical connector back to the latch after you place the lock cylinder release cable and interior release handle. Put back the rear compartment trim panel then lower the rear compartment lid.
