2002 Cadillac Eldorado Brake Calipers Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to perform a front Brake Calipers overhaul on 2002 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: To carry out brake caliper overhaul on the front start first by removing the front brake caliper from the vehicle. Exercise extreme care not to put fingers in front of Piston while high pressure air is compressed as it can be fatally harmed. During Piston removal, pad the interior of the caliper housing with clean cloths using very little air just to ease the pistons out of the bores so as not to do them damage. Pry off the Brake Caliper Piston from the caliper bore using low-pressure compressed air blown through the bore of the caliper into the fluid inlet hole. Use a small wooden or plastic tool to extract and discard the Piston dust boot seal from the seal counterbore in the caliper, finally followed by the Piston seal from the caliper bore. Next, remove the bleeder valve and cap in the caliper . Do not use abrasiveness to remove the brakes pistons, but instead clean the Brake Caliper Piston, the seal counterbore as well as the caliper Piston using alcohol denatured or similar to it. Dry these parts with non-lubricated, filtered air, and check the caliper bore for cracking, scoring, pitting, over-rust, or corrosion. In case of light rust or corrosion, try to eliminate it with fine emery paper; otherwise, replace the caliper assembly. For any cracks, scoring, or damage to the chrome plating on the caliper, change the Piston. Apply extra cleaner delco supreme 11(R), gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid from an empty and sealed container in turning the new Piston seal in the caliper bore. Next, insert the caliper Piston into the bore, while topping it off with the new Piston dust boot seal onto the Piston. Use the j 35777 caliper Piston seal installer (J 35777) to seat the boot into the caliper completely, then install and firmly tighten the bleeder valve and cap to the caliper and then reinstall it back into the vehicle.
