- Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2002 Cadillac Seville?A: Examine the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level before starting the replacement process. You can proceed if the level is above halfway between maximum and minimum limits but must drain fluid to this halfway point first. Lift up the vehicle and take out both tire and wheel components from below. Lower the front park brake cable from its park brake cable connector to disconnect it. A large c-clamp squeezes the Brake Caliper Piston into its chamber but only 1 mm (0.039 inch) before stopping to stop internal damage. Unplug the sensor wire from the brake caliper and thumb up its mounting clip. Lift the sensor from the inner Brake Pad set while clearing the retainer clip. Take off the brake inlet bolt plus brake hose after throwing away both copper hose gaskets. Close the exposed spaces by plugging them to seal fluid while you detach the park brake cable bracket from the brake caliper. Turn the brake caliper upward while removing its bottom bolts then pull it off from the top bolt connection. Use new lubrication when reinstalling brake caliper pins and attach the caliper to its upper bolt position. Put the caliper back onto the lower bracket and brake pads before pushing the lower pin bolt in place with 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs. Of force). Place new copper brake hose gaskets on the bolt and install them along with the bolt into the brake hose. Thread the brake hose onto the caliper bolt from its entrance and fasten it at 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Put the Brake Pad wear sensor wire back to the caliper while fitting the sensor through the inner pad and locking its retainer clip. Put the park brake cable in its position on the caliper lever then attach the park brake cable bracket and bolt making sure to tighten them to 43 nm (32 ft. Lbs.). Connect the front park brake cable to its connector at the brake lever and bleed the brake system before pressing the Brake Pedal gently to 2/3 of its travel and slowly releasing it. Let the Brake Pedal sit for 15 seconds during each press. Master this action until the brake pads and pistons rest firmly in their positions. Put the tire back with its wheel parts below the vehicle.
