- Q: How to replace the front brake calipers on 2003 Cadillac Seville?A: Start replacing the front brake caliper after checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. Lower the level to the halfway point if the fluid shows above that mark. Lift your vehicle safely before noting wheel position relative to axle flange and taking off tire and wheel parts. Position a large c-clamp over the brake caliper body and tighten until the caliper piston moves away from the rotor. Afterward, hand tighten two lug nuts on wheel to bracket assembly before taking out the caliper and rotating it away. Take off the c-clamp then loosen and extract the inlet fitting bolt of the brake caliper. Use and discard two copper brake hose gaskets while closing the openings to stop fluid leakage and contamination. Prepare the new caliper pin bolts for the second design hardware before removing both set of bolts and the brake caliper. Clean new caliper pin bolts and retainers with denatured alcohol before using cleaned non-lubricated filtered air to dry them properly. For the first hardware type put high temperature silicone brake lubricant on both brake caliper pin bolts and retainers. Master second hardware by coating niglube grease on these points. Place the brake caliper over the brake pads into the bracket where you should pay attention to have the lower caliper connect with a solid pin bolt while the upper caliper where the pin bolt contains a bushing. Fit new copper brake hose gaskets between the brake hose bolt and tighten it to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Also apply proper torque when installing the brake caliper pin bolts at 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.). With the engine off you should push and pull the brake pedal to around 2/3 of its distance until no more fluid is visible. Let the brake pedal rest for 15 seconds while repeating the full application until it develops maximum brake strength. Lower the vehicle and put on the tire and wheel assembly before taking out the 2 wheel lug nuts holding the rotor to the hub.
