- Q: How to replace the rear brake calipers on 2001 Cadillac Seville?A: You must first check the brake master cylinder fluid level before replacing the rear brake caliper. If the fill is above the midpoint line by 2 markings from the highest and lowest marks. Put the car on jack stands before taking away the tire and wheel pieces. Move the front park brake cable downward to remove it from the park brake cable connector. Apply a large c-clamp to push the Brake Caliper Piston into the bore while keeping the piston stroke below 1 mm to prevent harming the brake handle mechanism. Before disconnecting items remove the c-clamp then pull off the electronic Brake Pad wear sensor retaining clip. Lift the sensor away from the inner Brake Pad by gently prying it up. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector and take out the brake wire from the caliper. Discard both copper brake hose gaskets and take off the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and brake hose. Thread plugs into the oulets to shield them first before taking off the park brake cable bracket and removing park brake cable from brake caliper. Pull the pin bolt from under the brake caliper then push it upwards to detach from the top pin bolt. If you use the original components prepare each calorie retainer and sleeve for reuse before coating brake pin bolts with heat-resistant silicone lube. To install the caliper place it on the upper pin bolt first. Pull the caliper downward onto the Brake Caliper Bracket and screw in the lower brake caliper pin bolt to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Mount new copper brake hose gaskets on the brake hose bolt then attach them as a set to the caliper bolt and tighten it to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Fit the electronic Brake Pad wear sensor wire into the caliper before attaching the wire connector and snapping the sensor onto the inner Brake Pad. Install the retainer clip after fitting in. Fit the park brake cable end to the brake caliper lever then install the park brake cable bracket with its bolt. Secure the bolt at 43 nm torque. Join the front park brake cable back to its connector then bleed the braking mechanism. After turning off the engine apply the brake pedal gradually until it reaches 2/3 of its movement twice to reach a firm pedal feeling. Place the wheel and tire together before lowering the vehicle.
