2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to perform remote programming of the Engine Control Module on 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
A: Remote programming of the Engine Control Module begins with turning OFF the ignition while connecting the Tech 2 to the data link connector (DLC). The next step begins with enabling the ignition while keeping the engine shut off before disabling all vehicle accessories. Begin the process by entering Service Programming on the Tech 2 then following the steps to confirm vehicle information. Pick the programming type first followed by selection of the targeted module for programming. Check if the Techline system displays the correct VIN because mismatched VINs should be recorded and corrected through the Techline terminal. Exit Service Programming before turning off the Tech 2 and removing it from connection to the vehicle hardware. Proceed to the Techline terminal and select Service Programming before verifying the Tech 2 as the active tool. Verify and amend the display VIN and proceed by choosing the Normal programming type for calibrations and VCI for VIN-less vehicles or Reconfigure for tire size updates. Follow up by choosing the correct calibration file while checking all connections are intact before starting the download of the new calibration onto the Tech 2. Complete the download operation by shutting down the Tech 2 then pulling it out from the Techline terminal. Install the Tech 2 to the DLC slot followed by turning it ON while shifting the ignition to ON position and keeping the engine power off. At the beginning of the process Service Programming will activate the control module for communication purposes. The programming procedure should not be attempted unless all PCM and DLC connections are secure along with having current Techline software and preventing the ignition from being turned OFF. Replacement of the control module is necessary when reprogramming fails. Service Programming needs to be exited before shutting off ignition for 30 seconds followed by Tech 2 shutdown. When performing maintenance on vehicles which had a control module replacement it is necessary to complete the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure followed by GM Oil Life System reset in Maintenance and Lubrication and Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) Set Procedure and Theft Deterrent System Components programming in Theft Deterrent.
