  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo?
    A: To change the engine front cover disconnect at first the battery ground (negative) cable, drain the engine coolant and oil and remove the Oil Pan, also coolant recovery reservoir, crankshaft balancer, drive belt tensioner, and Power Steering Pump with lines, reposition the pump afterwards. Unclamp the thermostat bypass pipe and radiator outlet hose from the Timing Cover and take out the coolant pump and lower Crankshaft Position Sensor wiring harness bracket from the engine front cover. Then remove the engine front cover bolts (1, 2, and 3) and the engine front cover including the gasket and check the cover for damage to the crankshaft front oil seal or gasket sealing surface. While replacing the engine front cover, take out the drive belt shield and the Crankshaft Position Sensor. For installation, if the Crankshaft Position Sensor was removed, put it back onto the engine front cover, then put the drive belt shield and its bolt in, tightening it to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Do install engine front cover gasket as well as the engine front cover and attach it with the help of bolts ( tightening to 55 Nm (41 ft. Lbs.), bolt ( tightening to 47 Nm (35 ft. Lbs.), and bolts ( tightening to 21 Nm (15 ft. Lbs.)). Put back the lower crankshft position sensor wiring harness bracket, coolant pump, radiator outlet hose and thart bypass pipe, then on with the Power Steering Pump, drive belt tensioner and crankshaft balancer. So, stay go through the installing the Oil Pan, installoil and coolent system and then reconnecting the leader ground (negative cable), and do a ckp system variation learn procedure.
