2002 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front door Weather Strip on 2002 GMC Safari?
A: Initiating the front door weather strip replacement requires the removal of interior moldings on the front door. You can use the Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover (J 38778) tool to extract the weather strip from the door pinchweld flange starting from its upper right corner and progressing down until the weather strip becomes completely loose. Spread the weather strip length properly by joining the pinchweld flange at six strategic areas before completely fitting the strip to the door opening. Place the weather strip on the opening one by hand so it reaches the pinchweld flange at approximately 154 mm (6 in) from each corner. A rubber mallet should hit the weather strip directly against the flange to prevent carrier spreading that might decrease retention. Place the weather strip into each corner component alongside the pinchweld flange of the windshield-and-hinge pillars through hammering with a rubber mallet. The weather strip must both be properly arranged into the corner and adapt to the pinchweld flange radius while fully settled onto the flange to create a smooth vinyl door opening trim free from carrier distortions and spreading. During the installation process verify that the weather strip retains its natural shape and maintain lubrication with GM weather strip silicone lube. The last step includes reinstalling the interior garnish moldings.
