The process to replace the crankshaft front oil seal begins by uninstalling the crankshaft balancer assembly with its bolt yet protecting the seal bore and contact surfaces from any damage. A screwdriver should be used for removing the crankshaft front oil seal. The installation requires a Seal Installer (J 35354) to position the new oil seal before using the crankshaft balancer bolt with the tool to tighten it until it properly settles in the engine front cover. Tear down the Seal Installer (J 35354) before applying lubricant GM P/N 10522497 or an equivalent to the crankshaft balancer seal surfaces. Then install both the balancer and its bolt.
