2004 Buick Rendezvous Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on an All-Wheel-Drive on 2004 Buick Rendezvous?
A: Maintenance professionals should start coil spring replacement operations on all-wheel-drive vehicles by lifting the car to prevent accidental damage. Start by removing the rear wheel followed by brake caliper detachment without breaking the hose connection while supporting the caliper component. A utility stand (J41820) will help you keep the lower Control Arm in position while you remove the height sensor link from the lower Control Arm when needed along with the speed sensor harness connector and Control Arm harness. Primary installation steps require you to remove the speed sensor connector mounting bracket, detach the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm and disconnect the shock absorber from the lower Control Arm. Remove the lower Control Arm-to-knuckle nut before disconnecting the Ball Joint from the knuckle using the Ball Joint/stud separator tool (J41820). Use the utility stand to lower the Control Arm after removing the lower Ball Joint nut and coil spring tension will be reduced. Move the utility stand out of the way to extract the coil spring carefully. To install the new parts follow this order: install the coil spring, put on the spring jounce bumper, index and install the spring insulator followed by indexing and spring assembly installation onto control arms. Lift the lower Control Arm using a utility stand while you attach the lower Ball Joint to the knuckle before installing the lower Ball Joint nut and applying 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.) of torque. The speed sensor harness must first connect to the Control Arm and the harnesses before the stabilizer shaft link reattaches to the lower Control Arm and the speed sensor connector mounting bracket installs. Install the shock absorber to the lower Control Arm followed by reinstallation of the height sensor link when needed and final installation of the brake caliper before placing the rear wheel. Examining and readjusting rear camber and toe angles becomes necessary before performing vehicle lowering procedures.
