2004 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster (RHD) on 2004 Cadillac CTS?
A: To start vacuum Brake Booster replacement work remove the left insulator first then slide off its Pushrod retaining clip before taking out the Pushrod from Brake Pedal assembly. When possible take out the cross vehicle brace. Keep brake pipes connected to the master cylinder while you extract the vacuum Brake Booster and place the master cylinder to the side. Move the air inlet grille to see the vacuum Brake Booster lock and proceed without draining the coolant or disconnecting the surge tank outlet hose. Disconnect the coolant surge tank inlet hose and bolts while preparing the tank to shift aside. Let us connect the coolant surge tank inlet hose first to protect against coolant release prior to disconnecting and placing the vacuum Brake Booster check valve aside. Use master cylinder retaining nuts to fit the j 22805-b onto the vacuum Brake Booster and then lock the booster from the cowl front before pressing its locking tab down as you rotate the booster counterclockwise with the ratchet tool. Support the booster while you detach it from the cowl mounting flange. Push the foam filter forward to reach the retaining clip. Pull the retaining clip's longer arm up to take out the Pushrod from the booster. Make sure that internal elements and locking flange areas remain unharmed during installation. Hook the booster to the Pushrod and position the device while making sure that the retainer clip's long end fits into the manufacturer's groove. To properly secure the booster turn it counterclockwise until all locking tabs engage with the cowl flange before tightening the ratchet on tool j 22805-b . Restore the vacuum hose connection by replacing j 22805-b tool and inspect the check valve. Then secure the coolant surge tank, air inlet grille, and master cylinder back to their original position on the vacuum Brake Booster. Reinstall the cross vehicle brace and only then add the vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod to its Brake Pedal mount, secure the retaining clip, and refit the left closeout panel.
