• Q: How to service and repair the Valve Stem Oil Seal on the right side on 2004 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: Start repair work on the right Valve Stem Oil Seal by first taking out right camshafts and suspending the vehicle when its raised. First take out both components linking the Oil Pan to the transaxle case before eliminating the torque converter cover. Attach the flywheel holder part j 44214 before lowering the vehicle on its wheels. Before taking out the Spark Plug from the cylinder keep its recess area clean to shield against debris. Set the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J 44211) base plate over the Spark Plug hole while keeping the valve closed using continuous air pressure through the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313). Mount the on-vehicle valve spring compressor arm and swivel nut on top of the valve stud that needs service while keeping the swivel nut lightly tightened at first. Use a magnet to take out the valve locks from the compressor before turning loose the swivel nut and moving the arm away from the valve spring retainer and valve spring. Remove the Valve Stem Oil Seal strictly when replacing it using valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820) tool set. First apply engine oil to the valve stem and inside the new seal. After putting the seal protector in place you can use valve stem seal remover and installer tool (J 38820) to add the new Valve Stem Oil Seal. Set the valve spring retainer and spring in place before moving the arm above the parts. Tighten the hand wheel of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor j 44211 barely enough for installing the valve locks. Place the valve locks into position using the j 43059 tool before taking off the j 44211 spring compressor swivel nut and arm. Do this operation on all serviceable valves before reducing air pressure and taking off the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) from the Spark Plug hole. Insert the Spark Plug into the base plate of the on-vehicle valve spring compressor (J 44211). Complete these steps for every remaining cylinder followed by reinstallation of the right camshafts. Next position the vehicle and take off the flywheel holder. When finished put on the torque converter cover and attach the Oil Pan to the transaxle brace by turning the bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Lastly, lower the vehicle.
