  A: To service and repair the Crankshaft main bearing seal, the required tools are: engine rear oil seal remover (J42841) and the Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J45930). Begin by removing the Flywheel. Mount the rear oil seal remover (J 42841) and screw the retaining bolts. Install the eight 25mm (1.0in) self-drilling screw into the seal using a variable speed drill motor with socket adapter, slowing drill speed while the screws thread into the seal through the guide holes in the removal tool. Remove all screws and install the center forcing screw and tighten it to haul off the seal assembly from the Crankshaft. Before installing the new Crankshaft rear oil seal, the drain should be clear to avoid leaks. Clean any debris around the Crankshaft rear oil drain with wire or plain, unbound plastic tie-wrap. Apply a small amount of gasket maker, gm p/n 1052942 (Canadian P/N 10953466), at the crankcase split line and the outer diameter of cylinder block Crankshaft rear oil seal area, and apply clean engine oil, gm p/n 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704). Do not contaminate the green coating of the Crankshaft rear oil seal's inside diameter. Clean the outer diameter of the Flywheel flange: lubricate the outer rubber of the Crankshaft rear oil seal with the clean engine oil: gm p/n 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704). Loosen the center bolt of the Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J 45930) until the center hub is approximately 13mm (0.5 in.) in front of the outer plate and then install it to the rear of the Crankshaft and tighten the two mounting bolts into the Crankshaft flange, tightening until the installer is firmly attached. Mounting the Crankshaft rear oil seal in place using the center bolt which should be tightened until, it bottoms against the crankcase, then loosening the center bolt to relieve pressure and mounting bolts to remove the installer. Check the installation depth circumference of the Crankshaft rear oil seal and ensure it is the same if not reinstall the Crankshaft rear oil seal installer (J 45930) and re-do all the installation procedures. Finally, install the Flywheel.
