2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake line on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: To replace the front brake hose, you need to raise and support your vehicle after removing the wheel and tire assembly. Clean all the dirt and foreign materials out of the brake hose ends and the brake pipe fitting. Use a joint plier to disconnect the brake pipe from the brake hose, then use the hose to inject fluid and close the brake pipe fitting. To prevent fluid loss and external contamination, insert a plug or cap. First, take off the hose retaining clip from the front brake hose, then use the brake hose-to-caliper bolt to remove the brake hose from the brake caliper. Throw out 2 copper gaskets for the brake hose, they could stick to the brake caliper or end of the brake hose, and cover or fill the opening in the brake caliper and brake hose. For installation, remove the brake hose cap or plugs off the brake caliper and brake hose, then fit in new copper brake hose gaskets along with the braking hose bolt to the brake hose. Mount the brake hose-to-brake caliper bolt to the brake caliper with a 50 nm (37 ft. lbs.) torque, making sure the brake hose is not twisted. Mount the brake hose to the brake hose bracket and secure it with a hose retaining clip. Take the caps or plugs and remove them from the brake pipe fitting end and the brake hose end and using a backup wrench you connect the brake pipe fitting at the front brake hose tightening till the torque of 23 nm (17 ft. lbs). Replace the tire and wheel assembly while making sure that the hose will not touch any suspension part when going through extreme right and left turns. In the case it does, do not forget to remove the hose and correct the condition. Lastly, bleed the hydraulic brake and drop the car.
