2004 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: You must disconnect the negative cable from the battery as your first step to replace the vacuum Brake Booster. Start by lifting the washer solvent container out of the left wheelhouse by removing retaining nuts. Then disconnect the electrical components and washer hose before plugging the washer pump outlet. First disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connector while carefully removing the master cylinder retaining nuts off the Brake Booster, position the master cylinder to the side without breaking brake pipe connections. The procedure requires removal of the booster check valve vacuum hose and the instrument panel lower trim panel before continuing. Begin by removing the Brake Pedal retainer, washer, brake pedal pin and Brake Booster pushrod followed by disassembly of the screw from the telescoping column motor mounting bracket to position the motor assembly on the right side of the steering column. Move the Brake Booster from side to side and pull it directly out of its mounting studs after removing the booster's studs, nuts, and washers. Check the booster seal and sealing surfaces for damage during the cowl removal process. Replace the seal if necessary. Start by installing the Brake Booster at the front of the dash followed by the booster mounting nuts and washers on the booster studs. Tolerate 27 nm of torque (19 ft. Lbs). Reinstall all Brake Pedal hardware with the Brake Booster pushrod followed by Brake Pedal pin and washer before inserting the retainer to ensure its proper seating through rotation. Space the telescoping column motor assembly to the steering column and tighten the motor mounting bracket screw to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.). Begin by installing the instrument panel lower trim panel and then attach the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to its check valve. Secure the master cylinder installation to the booster using mounting nuts set to 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). Connect the electrical connector to the Brake Fluid Level Sensor before connecting the electrical connector and washer hose to the washer solvent container. Then install the container back into the wheelhouse and secure it using retaining nuts tightened to 7.5 nm (66 inch lbs.). When finished reconnect the battery negative cable and conduct programming for the transmitters.
